We know that making an excellent start to Year 7 means our students will have the best chance of achieving, throughout their five years with us. With that in mind, we would like to invite you to our Year 7 Welcome Evening on Tuesday 23rd September 2025

Good morning
We cannot wait to welcome you back to Oakwood tomorrow for your return to school.
A reminder that we expect you here at 8:40am in full school uniform with a full set of equipment - we want to start the new year positively, so please ensure you are organised and ready.
On arrival please go to your Tutor room for Period 1.
Breakfast club will be on from 8am.
I want to make you aware of a change to our detention system. If you arrive late to school (after 8:40am) with no valid reason from parents/ carers, you will be given a lunchtime detention that day at 12:30. Failure to attend will lead to an upscaled 60 minute after school detention that day. We hope and anticipate that all students are organised and are on time for school each and every day.

The Oakwood Academy – 2025 GCSE Results
The Oakwood Academy, part of Redhill Academy Trust, celebrated recent exam results this week. Well over half of students achieved the important benchmark of obtaining at least a grade 4 in maths, English and science. The results represented a big increase to exam performance for the school compared to the previous results in 2024.
Headteacher Mr Andrew Gilbert said: "This group of students were hard-working and committed to their achievement. They worked well together and with staff, leading to outstanding individual performances, and we are delighted that so many students have excellent results, reflecting their ability, effort and commitment.”
"They have been well-prepared by our committed and skilful staff, to whom I am grateful for their conscientious hard work in teaching, supporting and nurturing students throughout their time at the school."
The highest-achieving student was Rebecca Weatherall, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s. Rebecca said "I am really happy with my results, and I’d like to thank everyone at Oakwood for their support”. Rebecca will go on to High Pavement Sixth Form to study A-levels in English, business and a third subject to be decided.
Temuulen Yura was the highest-achieving male student, achieving six grade 8s. Temuulen said “Even though I know i have worked hard, I am still nervous collecting them. I have done well, and I am proud of my achievements – all the hard work has paid off." Temuulen will go to Bilborough College to study A-Levels in economics, biology and chemistry.
A special mention to other Oakwood Academy students who achieved Grade 9s or D*, the highest grades possible, placing them in the top 3% of the country within that given subject. This year students achieved a collective 25 top grades across a range of subjects, including English, maths, history, PRE, hospitality, business, PE and health and social care.
The Oakwood Academy is part of the Redhill Academy Trust. Students have benefitted throughout their time at Oakwood via the support offered to them by the trust, including events to broaden their horizons, raise aspirations and support their progression to higher education.
We are excited to welcome all our new Year 7 students this week and want to assure you that staff will be available throughout the day to support and answer any questions they may have, so they can settle in comfortably and confidently as they begin this new chapter.
Where do I go on my first day?
Please make your way to the Main Hall at the front of the school, but 8.40am, where staff will be waiting to meet you. Don’t worry, when you get dropped off, there will be lots of staff on hand to direct you.
What equipment will I need on my first day?
It is important that you are organised and prepared for school. We expect each student to arrive ready to learn and having the equipment you need to be successful is a key part of this process.
You should bring an appropriate school bag each day to carry your equipment. We expect students to bring a pencil case with the following as a minimum:
We also require students, as part of their equipment, to bring a reading book of their choice to school. We have set private and paired reading times timetabled into the Year 7 tutor programme.
Students will not need to bring their PE kit on the first day.
What do I do about lunches?
Students will require money loaded onto their ParentPay account by the morning of their first day. Please do this via the online system. Emails will have been circulated to parents with instructions and passwords included. Any questions, please let us know. If your child receives a free school meal, their daily allowance will automatically be uploaded to their account for them to use as they wish each day.
Our new school menu is available to view on our website here, which will give you an idea of the food on offer each week. For your first week in school, we are starting on Week One.
When will I get my timetable?
Your child will be issued with a paper copy of their timetable from their Tutor.

The Year 11 Prom at Goosedale was an absolutely fantastic night, providing a perfect celebration of the students' time at the Oakwood Academy. It was wonderful to see everyone dressed to impress and sharing memorable moments together, marking the end of an important chapter in their lives. We wish all Year 11 students the very best for their future endeavours and look forward to seeing many of you on August 21 for GCSE Results Day. Here's to your bright futures!

School will be open from 9am to 11am for you to collect your results.
If someone else is collecting your results for you, we must have signed, written permission or an email from you before the 20th August.
The Oakwood Academy is excited to announce its upcoming Common Transfer Day on July 2nd, 2025, offering children a wonderful opportunity to experience a typical day at the school. This event allows prospective students to immerse themselves in the academy’s vibrant environment, helping them get a feel for the daily routines and community. In the evening, parents and students will have the chance to meet their future tutors and discuss important aspects of the school, ensuring a smooth transition and fostering strong relationships from the outset. This comprehensive day aims to make the transfer process welcoming and informative for all involved.
We are incredibly proud to share that Riley, a much-loved student at Oakwood, was recently honoured with the Child of Courage award by the Nottingham Rotary Club. This prestigious event, which recognises exceptional young people across the region, featured keynote speaker Richard Whitehead MBE, was hosted by Colin Fray and celebrated the remarkable resilience and determination of students like Riley. Despite facing immense challenges, Riley continued to work hard at school and remained a positive presence within the Oakwood community—most memorably showcasing his talents by DJ-ing at Oakwood’s Got Talent.
Riley received his award at the ceremony alongside his Head of House and family members, who proudly supported him throughout the evening. His courage, perseverance, and commitment to school life are an inspiration to us all, and we are delighted to see his achievements recognised in such a meaningful way. Riley embodies the values we strive to uphold at Oakwood and across the Redhill Trust.
It is a bitter-sweet time of the year when we finally say goodbye to all our Year 11’s. We saw you when you first came to us on Transition days and saw you progress to your GCSE’s, and it’s been one heck of a journey.
To recognise the hard work you’ve done with your time at The Oakwood, it was a day of celebration and memory.
We will miss you, Year 11! We hope that you all stay in touch and wish you the very best of luck for the future.

Afternoon all
As we move ever closer to your final few days with us at Oakwood I wanted to give you some information and a few requests.
Everyone who ordered a leavers hoodie will be given it next Thursday afternoon (12th).
On Friday 13th (your leavers day) you will be able to wear your hoodie to school instead of your blazer. All other aspects of your uniform must remain (shoes, trousers/skirt, shirt, tie). If you didn't order a hoodie - blazers still please.
It is important you don't do any shirt signing prior to the exam as it may mean you aren't allowed to enter the exam hall.
The final day looks like this -
8:00am - Science booster.
8:45am - Bleachers for messages/ science briefing.
10:15/20am - Combined science students return to lesson (Science/ Maths).
10:45am - Break for all students - Y11 allowed to get shirts signed
11:05am - All Y11 students to come to the outdoor seating for shirt signing/ photos etc
11:30 - Leavers assembly starts
12:15 – All Y11 go home to revise!
You will return the following week for your remaining exams and full school uniform will still be needed.
Finally, once all of your exams are complete we would appreciate any donations of uniform, PE Kit, school bags, old revision books etc. This is to enable us to support families in the community. If you are able to help please drop off at main reception at any time – we appreciate this in advance.
