We are excited to welcome all our new Year 7 students this week and want to assure you that staff will be available throughout the day to support and answer any questions they may have, so they can settle in comfortably and confidently as they begin this new chapter.

Where do I go on my first day?
Please make your way to the Main Hall at the front of the school, but 8.40am, where staff will be waiting to meet you. Don’t worry, when you get dropped off, there will be lots of staff on hand to direct you. 

What equipment will I need on my first day?
It is important that you are organised and prepared for school. We expect each student to arrive ready to learn and having the equipment you need to be successful is a key part of this process.

You should bring an appropriate school bag each day to carry your equipment. We expect students to bring a pencil case with the following as a minimum:

• Pens (black or blue and red)
• Two pencils
• Ruler
• Rubber

We also require students, as part of their equipment, to bring a reading book of their choice to school. We have set private and paired reading times timetabled into the Year 7 tutor programme.

Students will not need to bring their PE kit on the first day.

What do I do about lunches?
Students will require money loaded onto their ParentPay account by the morning of their first day. Please do this via the online system. Emails will have been circulated to parents with instructions and passwords included. Any questions, please let us know. If your child receives a free school meal, their daily allowance will automatically be uploaded to their account for them to use as they wish each day. 

Our new school menu is available to view on our website here, which will give you an idea of the food on offer each week. For your first week in school, we are starting on Week One. 

When will I get my timetable? 
Your child will be issued with a paper copy of their timetable from their Tutor.

Thursday 21^st August

School will be open from 9am to 11am for you to collect your results.

If someone else is collecting your results for you, we must have signed, written permission or an email from you before the 20^th August.

We are incredibly proud to share that Riley, a much-loved student at Oakwood, was recently honoured with the Child of Courage award by the Nottingham Rotary Club. This prestigious event, which recognises exceptional young people across the region, featured keynote speaker Richard Whitehead MBE, was hosted by Colin Fray and celebrated the remarkable resilience and determination of students like Riley. Despite facing immense challenges, Riley continued to work hard at school and remained a positive presence within the Oakwood community—most memorably showcasing his talents by DJ-ing at Oakwood’s Got Talent.

Riley received his award at the ceremony alongside his Head of House and family members, who proudly supported him throughout the evening. His courage, perseverance, and commitment to school life are an inspiration to us all, and we are delighted to see his achievements recognised in such a meaningful way. Riley embodies the values we strive to uphold at Oakwood and across the Redhill Trust.

 

Afternoon all

As we move ever closer to your final few days with us at Oakwood I wanted to give you some information and a few requests. 

Everyone who ordered a leavers hoodie will be given it next Thursday afternoon (12th). 

On Friday 13th (your leavers day) you will be able to wear your hoodie to school instead of your blazer. All other aspects of your uniform must remain (shoes, trousers/skirt, shirt, tie). If you didn't order a hoodie - blazers still please.

It is important you don't do any shirt signing prior to the exam as it may mean you aren't allowed to enter the exam hall. 

The final day looks like this - 

• 8:00am - Science booster.

• 8:45am - Bleachers for messages/ science briefing.

• 10:15/20am - Combined science students return to lesson (Science/ Maths).

• 10:45am - Break for all students - Y11 allowed to get shirts signed

• 11:05am - All Y11 students to come to the outdoor seating for shirt signing/ photos etc

• 11:30  - Leavers assembly starts

• 12:15 – All Y11 go home to revise!

You will return the following week for your remaining exams and full school uniform will still be needed.

Finally, once all of your exams are complete we would appreciate any donations of uniform, PE Kit, school bags, old revision books etc. This is to enable us to support families in the community. If you are able to help please drop off at main reception at any time – we appreciate this in advance.
