In order to further develop our careers curriculum, following our week long work experience programme, we invited all Year 10 students to experience the life of a sixth form or college student through a range of A level tasters and vocational workshops. They got to hear from some incredibly talented and inspiring presenters. While also gaining the opportunity to improve their employability skills through CV writing and mock interviews.
15 volunteers from various professions came to support our day and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, comments from these employers included, “great young people, they should be proud of themselves” and “some excellent students that give the school a great impression”.
Students also commented that, “it gave me a better idea of what a real interview was like” and “I have learnt what employers look for and will try and improve my skills based on my feedback”
This wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and commitment from all our volunteers, so on behalf of us all at Oakwood - Thank you very much!
Overall, a huge well done to all our Year 10 students who performed exceptionally well, massive bravery points, many arrived nervous but initial anxiety gave way to confidence as they got into the swing of answering questions. We are extremely proud, well done for feeling the fear and doing it anyway!
Didn't they look smart? 😊
