I have a daughter in Year 9 (17/18).

Why did they want to be a Governor at The Oakwood Academy?

I thought that being a parent governor would be a great way to get to know the school better! I want to contribute to the success of Oakwood so that it can be the best school it can be, not just for my daughter but for all the children. I have enormous respect for the teaching profession and the hard work and commitment they have, and being a parent governor is how I can demonstrate my support to Oakwood. It’s really important to me that Oakwood is a place where children thrive and that we all (staff, children and the community) can be really proud of.

What specific skills and expertise does this Governor bring to The Oakwood Academy?

I bring nearly 20 years of HR experience with me, so I’m used to a range of people issues that Oakwood will face. In addition, I work in a medium size organisation and am familiar with governance and budget issues which I hope will stand me in good stead at the various meetings I attend as a governor. On a personal level, I love working with people and I’m naturally inquisitive which means I ask lots of questions (and talk a lot!)
