I work as a counsellor for Relate Nottinghamshire.

I have a daughter in Year 9. And I have a son who is in Primary school.

Why did they want to be a Governor at The Oakwood Academy?

I want to make a contribution to the school’s improvement and development. I want to make a difference for my daughter’s education and for every child’s education. I want the school to be a place where children and staff feel proud and positive of their own individual achievement and that of the school community as a whole.

What specific skills and expertise does this Governor bring to The Oakwood Academy?

I bring empathy and understanding as a parent and counsellor. I work with individuals, couples and families on the issues that are affecting them and help them make the changes they need to improve their personal and relationship difficulties. I have previous experience of working in different sectors (education, civil service, charitable organisations) mainly in a communications manager role; I have worked with senior management colleagues on strategic development and I have worked with colleagues in HR to recruit and performance manage staff.
