Heavy or Large Goods Vehicle Driver

To become a Heavy or Large Goods Vehicle driver (HGV/LGV) you need to:

  • have a full driving licence
  • be over 18
  • get a professional driving qualification called the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)

(There are five tests in total that make up the full CPC qualification).

As a driver, you would drive on long journeys around the UK and often abroad to deliver goods and raw materials to customers.

You could move everything from food to fuel, transporting loads from depots, distribution centres and warehouses to shops, factories and businesses.
